Looping Workshop

Created as part of Ben Marriott’s workshop.

All participants got the same set of designs (by James Boorman), but each loop came out unique.

Thanks to Ben and James for making this such a valuable creative exercise!

Behind the Scenes

Like every project, I start by planning out my animation. Sometimes that happens just in my head, other times I test it out, and that’s what I did here. As you can see, this isn’t the final animation. The rhythm and speed were still off. This stage is more about convincing myself that the idea works.

I also had to figure out the order of instruments. Making sure it made sense creatively but was also technically doable to animate. At this point, I also animated the gradient so it was ready to use later, since it repeats throughout the project.

Apart from the full circle loop, the challenge was to make each instrument loop on its own, meaning I had to create seamless loops for several different elements.

I learned a lot while working on this project, and I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading! I’ve also got a few more snippets from the project that I thought were pretty cool and worth sharing.
